FEARLESS HEART
Welcome!
My name is Karen Hultin. I am a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner® and a Co-regulating Touch/Table Work Practitioner.* When I am not working, I love to be outdoors in my garden, walking, biking, or, in winter, skiing.
As a trauma therapist, I hold space for challenges that folks face connected to past experiences with stress, complex/developmental trauma; grief & loss; power & control; anxiety & depression; difficult life transitions; and challenging relationships.
I draw from my curiosity and compassion to hold space, explore, and co-create healing conversations with both body and mind. I have training in attachment theory, human development, complex and developmental trauma, the neurophysiology of trauma, and healing through somatic work. I integrate Somatic Experiencing, Internal Family Systems-Informed (IFSCA) and Attachment-focused principles to invite a compassionate, strengths-based, & resilience-promoting perspective to the folks with whom I share space.
I am interested in exploring relationality and how it affects our lives on personal, family, community and societal levels. I also have my own ongoing personal practice around deconstructing my settler-colonial self and the societal constructs that have informed those patterns. For me, this includes slowing down to stay in relationship with myself and the people around me; making space to pause and rest; building a practice of self-care and playfulness; supporting myself with meditation movement and self-compassion; and, understanding my own historical and intergenerational trauma-based patterns.
My background informs my work with you. Together, we will explore: turning inward, establishing a sense of safety, co-regulation and settling of the nervous system; listening compassionately to emotions; connecting with inner wisdom and the innate capacity we have for healing; deepening relationships; and, reconnecting to life energy, playfulness, and joy.
I am also honoured to offer co-regulating touch and table work to folks healing from complex and developmental trauma. This is a holistic body/mind method that addresses ways in which emotional pain and stress are held in our bodies and supports people to find support internally through nervous system settling. It is a safe and effective way to work with early prenatal/perinatal and young developmental traumas. I have completed trainings in touch skills and developmental trauma with Kathy Kain and Steve Terrell and continue with ongoing coursework and supervision in this area.
To those who are pursuing SEP training, I am qualified to offer personal sessions at the beginner level. Please email me at [email protected] to discuss further.
*I am required by my professional college to name that I am a registered social worker/psychotherapist in the provinces of Ontario and Alberta, Canada.
