FEARLESS HEART
shanna veldman
I’d like to think I’m one of those people who will try just about anything once. Sooner or later, I inevitably discover that it’s not for me, I get bored, and I move on to whatever’s next. Yoga has been the one exception that’s outlasted time and upheavals in my person life. The shiny just hasn’t worn off, and I’m starting to think it never will. I love yoga for constantly giving me new things to discover about myself and the world around me. I love yoga for its transformative possibility. I love yoga because it’s always there when I need it. I can’t say it ever gets easier, but it hasn’t stopped getting better. I recently completed my first 200 hour teacher training, and I already can’t wait to have the opportunity to expand on that learning. There are so many amazing things about yoga to explore and discover and I feel like I’ve only just gotten my toes wet. There’s a whole ocean still to go :)
I’m inspired by many great yoga teachers (Tiffany Cruikshank, Sadie Nardini, and Dice Iida-Klein to name a few) that have the ability to make their practice both meaningful and fun. Teachers who don’t take themselves too seriously and are able to share that experience of joy with their students. I hope that one day I can count myself among them. I’m also constantly inspired by the people around me who have the courage to pursue their dreams and passions no matter what obstacles stand in their way. I think we’d all be better off if we spent a little more time in our lives cultivating that quality of fierce hope and trust.
For me, being fearless means being ok with being me and not striving to be someone or something I’m not. I think fearlessness means living each day in line with what you truly believe, and having the courage to know it will all work out for the best.
